What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Reviewers praise
  • OrthoLite insole delivers genuine all-day comfort that most reviewers praise without reservation
  • Clean, versatile silhouette works across a wide range of colorways and outfits
  • Solid construction and craftsmanship — stitching, overlays, and board last noted as well-executed
Reviewers push back
  • Leather is thin — measured at roughly 1 mm — and carries a heavy polyurethane coating that obscures the hide underneath
  • Sizing is inconsistent: heel slippage reported at true size, yet going half a size down can feel too snug
  • OrthoLite insole, while comfortable initially, is noted by at least one reviewer to bottom out relatively quickly
The New Balance 550 is a comfortable, clean retro basketball shoe with broad style appeal, let down by thin leather and sizing quirks that reviewers largely agree to overlook.
— best for: Someone who wants a low-profile, versatile retro silhouette with real all-day comfort and doesn't need premium leather.

The Life Of A Broski 4.5/5
Rose Anvil 2.5/5

Leather quality is genuinely contested — Rose Anvil calls it on par with or worse than budget rivals after a destructive cross-section test, while Josh Dominic rates it above most mainstream sneakers at the same tier

Got the mushroom brown suede and they’re such a comfy and stylish pair of shoes, I absolutely love them. They have some arch support in them, which as someone with flat feet I appreciate. Would definitely recommend getting some kind of suede spray to help protect them from water! Kat S · newbalance.com

I love the ON series 5 sneaker and just keep ordering it because it feels good right out of the box! There are super cute and can cross over to my casual attire which I love. The delivery was super fast too! Christiane U. · saintbernard.com
