Critics & buyers

What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

DIY 2
across 4 reviews
4.0/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Detects and differentiates between wood studs, metal studs, pipes, and wires — including non-live wires that competing tools miss.
  • Expert mode provides a radar heat-map that lets experienced users trace pipe and wire runs without opening the wall.
  • Wireless Wi-Fi connection to the phone eliminates the need to hold or tether a device to the scanner.
Reviewers push back
  • Requires a Wi-Fi reconnection and fresh wall calibration every single session, which adds steps compared to a simple stud finder.
  • Expert mode demands practice and a learning curve before it delivers reliable, readable results.
  • Image mode can produce occasional false flashes, showing phantom objects that do not appear in expert mode.
Reviewers broadly agree the Walabot DIY 2 is a genuinely capable radar-based wall scanner that detects studs, pipes, wires, and movement where conventional stud finders fall short, with the wireless connection being its clearest upgrade over predecessors.
— best for: Homeowners and tradespeople — especially electricians and plumbers — who need to identify what is behind a wall before drilling or cutting, and who will invest time learning the two scanning modes.
ProSensor M210
across 5 reviews
4.5/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Thirteen sensors spread across the housing let it display full stud width in real time, rather than just marking an edge as most single-sensor tools do
  • No wall calibration needed — pressing the button before touching the wall and scanning immediately works reliably
  • Live-wire meter gives a proximity warning for electrical fields, helping users avoid wiring before they drill
Reviewers push back
  • The live-wire meter shows proximity, not exact location — near outlets or conduit it lights up without telling you precisely where the wire runs, which can create ambiguity
  • Performance can be affected by ambient temperature; the manual warns users to let the device acclimate, which some reviewers flagged as an unusual requirement
  • A newer model exists in the same product line, meaning buyers should verify they are choosing the variant that suits their needs
Reviewers broadly agree the M210 is a reliable, easy-to-use stud finder whose multi-sensor array makes it more accurate than single-sensor alternatives, with the live-wire meter adding useful safety awareness.
— best for: DIY homeowners and tradespeople who hang cabinetry, shelving, or fixtures regularly and want a stud finder that works on the first pass without calibration rituals.

Mad Electrician 4.5/5

One reviewer found the Wi-Fi pairing process a minor but real friction point and wished for Bluetooth, while others treated the Wi-Fi setup as routine and unremarkable.

Refresh Home Improvements 5.0/5
TRF Product Reviews 4.0/5

One reviewer counted 18 sensors while the product and other reviewers consistently state 13 — a factual discrepancy in the source material that suggests at least one reviewer was inattentive to spec details

Not easy to use without purchasing the phone attachment kit. Not worth the value. Still having false reading. The quality is ok but the part where you slide against the wall gets scratched easily. I tried attaching a slick sticker so it will slide easily against a textured wall but no luck with accurate reading. I am an avid do-it your-selfer. The Franklin Sensors ProSensor M210 is the best purchase I've made in a while. I've moved 21 times in the last 24 years, inlcuding 8 new-builds/major remodels. Every time we move, a stud finder ends up being a much used tool. Any work with plumbing, electrical, sheetrock, or picture hanging necessitate knowing where the studs are located.
