What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Ear (a)
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • ANC performance is strong and punches above expectations for earbuds of this class
  • Sound quality is clear and well-balanced once the bass-heavy defaults are adjusted via EQ
  • Nothing X companion app is polished, fast, and genuinely useful for EQ and control customisation
Reviewers push back
  • Bass-heavy default tuning requires manual adjustment; reviewers note the bass-enhance bug means turning it off does not fully reset the low-end
  • Battery life with ANC enabled is notably shorter than major competitors, falling short on longer journeys
  • No wireless charging on the case
Reviewers broadly agree the Ear (a) delivers strong sound, effective ANC, and a polished app experience in a comfortable, well-built package, with bass-heavy tuning and modest battery life as the main caveats.
— best for: Commuters and everyday listeners who want reliable ANC, clear sound, and a capable app without needing wireless charging or the most extended battery life.

Reviewers praise
  • Noise cancellation is among the strongest available in true wireless earbuds, with near-universal praise for how effectively it suppresses continuous background noise
  • Sound quality is detailed and full-range, with deep, controlled bass and clear mids and highs that reviewers found genuinely improved over the previous generation
  • Transparency mode is dramatically more natural and clear than before, with one reviewer placing it at the level of the best in class
Reviewers push back
  • The earbuds are physically large and protrude significantly from the ear, making them unsuitable for side-sleeping and potentially uncomfortable for smaller ears
  • The earbud orientation in the ear canal can feel uncertain due to the smaller body, with one reviewer noting the buds can rotate without obvious feedback on correct seating
  • The feature set has stagnated — no Bluetooth 6.0, no lossless audio over wireless, no Find My Device support — leaving the product behind rivals on quality-of-life connectivity features
The transparency mode, or what Sony calls ambient sound mode, went from feeling a little muddy and unclear to literally up there with AirPods Max levels of crystal clear and nat…

Performance:Setup was beyond simple. Music quality and charging life are more than satisfactory too. The Nothing X app to adjust EQ settings among several other features is golden 🙌🔥 I love adding more bass to my music and it's really amazing these earbuds are only RM399 (at time of purchase) Aside from the audio quality, its battery life is good, with me having one bud on for several hours and theriusberri · shopee.com.my

I ordered these on release day in the UK and received them the next day. To be truthful I bought these hoping the sound quality would be good and they have more than exceeded my expectations. You can EQ them to your liking, use 360 reality audio or spacial audio. I use LDAC codec as I use a Xperia phone and sound is outstanding for myself. Call quality through the earbuds is also very good as is n Solarwarden · sony.co.uk
