Critics & buyers

What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Fenix 8 Pro
across 4 reviews
3.0/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • GPS accuracy is top-notch across modes, with dual-band delivering reliable tracking even in demanding terrain
  • Heart rate sensor performs well without a chest strap, even on a large and heavy case
  • Navigation tools are best-in-class, with routable maps and on-the-fly rerouting
Reviewers push back
  • Satellite messaging reliability is inconsistent — the geostationary network does not follow the user, coverage degrades at high latitudes, and connection fails roughly half the time in partial tree cover
  • LTE does not behave like a true cellular watch in its default mode; incoming calls and messages are not received automatically unless the user manually checks or enables always-on mode
  • Speaker volume on calls is very low and audio quality is described as crackly
A technically impressive but niche upgrade that earns its keep for backcountry users who need satellite messaging and LTE, while offering little reason to upgrade for those who already own a capable Garmin.
— best for: Runners and hikers who regularly leave their phone behind and want integrated satellite messaging and LTE safety features in a single premium sports watch.
Pixel Watch 4
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
divided
Reviewers praise
  • Display is bright, vibrant, and edge-to-edge with strong off-axis viewing thanks to the domed glass
  • Fast charging meaningfully reduces daily charging friction, with reviewers confirming the quick top-up claims hold in real use
  • Battery life is a clear improvement over earlier generations, with multiple reviewers getting through a full day plus more with headroom to spare
Reviewers push back
  • Speaker is too quiet for calls in anything louder than a quiet room, limiting wrist-call usefulness in public
  • A third distinct proprietary charger across four generations frustrates reviewers and breaks compatibility with older accessories
  • Software setup can be messy if Fitbit and Google accounts are on different emails, requiring full factory resets
Reviewers broadly agree the Pixel Watch 4 is a significant step forward, with a best-in-class display, genuinely useful fast charging, and improved battery life, though a proprietary charger change, a quiet speaker, and a three-year software update window draw consistent criticism.
— best for: Android users who prioritise display quality, fast-charge convenience, and health tracking and are willing to stay within Google's ecosystem.

DC Rainmaker 3.5/5
HikingGuy.com 2.0/5

DC Rainmaker treats satellite messaging as a useful new capability worth exploring; HikingGuy finds it unreliable enough that he would not trust it in a true emergency — a direct disagreement on real-world dependability

Mike O'Brien 4.5/5
ShortCircuit 3.5/5

On watch face variety, one long-term reviewer felt options are derivative and fail to exploit the curved display, while others praised the Material 3 Expressive UI as cohesive and polished

This fēnix 8 Pro is hands down my best purchase in quite some time. I used a fēnix 5 for a long time but moved to an Apple Watch Ultra 2 for syncing across devices. After a year of Apple Watch, I realized how much I actually didn’t like it. Fēnix proves easier to use with organic menu flow and, the best part, PHYSICAL BUTTONS. This was the upgrade worth waiting for. The screen size is fantastic, the screen resolution is beautiful, the quality of the watch all around is top tier. It does everything every previous Pixel watch did, and so much more. It is easy to navigate, the interface is clean and to the point. The battery has lasted me 3 days before charging. And just like with the previous pixel watches, it tracks my s Kristen C · influenster.com
