What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Houdini Jacket
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Extremely low weight — barely noticeable in a pack or vest
  • Effective wind-stopping performance across running, hiking, climbing, and cycling
  • Packs into its own chest pocket and compresses to a very small bundle
Reviewers push back
  • Not waterproof — DWR finish handles light moisture only; not suited to sustained rain
  • Breathability is limited; sweat builds up inside during hard effort
  • Chest pocket is small and impractical for anything beyond the packed jacket itself
Reviewers broadly agree the Houdini is an exceptionally light, packable wind shell that earns its place in any outdoor kit, with breathability and pocket utility as the only real complaints.
— best for: Trail runners, hikers, cyclists, and climbers who want a near-weightless wind layer they will forget is in their pack until they need it.
Torrentshell 3L Jacket
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
divided
Reviewers praise
  • Reliable waterproofing that sheds rain effectively across extended and heavy-weather use
  • Durable, well-finished construction with solidly taped seams and quality YKK zippers throughout
  • Pit zips provide meaningful ventilation that compensates for breathability limits in high-output conditions
Reviewers push back
  • Fabric is stiff and crinkly with a plasticky feel and audible noise when moving
  • No chest pocket, and hand pockets are positioned too low for use with a backpack hip belt
  • Main zipper occasionally snags on the internal storm flap
A well-built, genuinely waterproof hard shell that reviewers consistently praise for durability and fit, with minor but recurring complaints about fabric noise, stiffness, and zipper friction.
— best for: Hikers, cyclists, and active travellers who want a durable, packable waterproof shell for day walks, variable weather, and shoulder-season layering.
Reviewers disagree · Houdini Jacket?
Patagonia 4.5/5
Brad Finn Ultra Running 4.0/5

Hood adjustability divides reviewers — one notes no cuff or hood adjustments and feels none are needed, while the brand description highlights the single-pull hood as a genuine feature

David P. McEntee 4.5/5
Short Reviews With Seth 3.5/5

Reviewers differ on how bothersome the fabric stiffness and noise actually is — some barely mention it while one flags it as a potential deal-breaker for non-hikers

When I first received this, I was somewhat skeptical because it is really thin. However, after wearing it, I can say it does the job really well. Cuts the wind and I’ve even worn it in light rain and, while it’s not a raincoat meant for heavy downpours, it served Its purpose of keeping the rain out. I can’t stress how small and light this is when it is stuffed into its pocket. You can put it in yo Sunny H. · altitude-sports.com

I bought this coat for a 10-day trip to the Azores. It rained nearly every day, and didn't stop me for a second! The Torrentshell kept me dry and comfortable, even on a 7 hour climb of Mt. Pico with rain blowing from all directions. - I love the blue color, it looks great. - the jacket, like all raincoats can be a little warm in warm weather. It is an effective windbreaker and the pit zips help- I Joethearrow · backcountry.com
