Critics & buyers

What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Moab Speed 2
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
divided
Reviewers praise
  • FloatPro foam midsole delivers genuine underfoot cushioning with enough stability to handle moderate trail terrain
  • TC5+ Vibram outsole with 4 mm lugs provides strong grip on dry and mixed surfaces
  • Durable upper combining engineered mesh, ripstop nylon, and TPU overlays resists abrasion well
Reviewers push back
  • Wet-terrain traction is only average — reviewers flag slippery performance on wet rock or mud
  • Fit runs slightly wide; narrow-footed wearers must cinch laces hard and may still feel excess room
  • Stock insole is considered thin and underwhelming, often benefiting from an aftermarket replacement
Reviewers broadly agree the Moab Speed 2 is a comfortable, well-built hiking shoe that excels on moderate trails but is not a replacement for heavier, more protective footwear on demanding terrain.
— best for: Hikers and active walkers who want a lightweight, cushioned shoe for moderate trails, mixed-terrain day hikes, and casual everyday wear.
Peregrine 16

4.0/5
divided
Reviewers praise
  • Vibram MegaGrip outsole delivers confident traction on wet, rocky, and technical terrain across most test conditions
  • Increased midsole stack adds noticeable cushioning and protection over longer distances without eliminating ground feel
  • Secure, well-fitting upper with good midfoot lockdown, a roomy toe box, and comfortable heel collar straight out of the box
Reviewers push back
  • One experienced reviewer found the Vibram lugs shallower than the previous proprietary outsole, leaving grip wanting in deep, heavy mud
  • Fit may edge tight on the little toes for some runners, particularly on longer efforts
  • PWRRUN midsole foam is mid-tier — functional and durable but not Saucony's most energetic compound
The Peregrine 16 is a well-rounded trail shoe that earns broad praise for its Vibram MegaGrip outsole and added cushioning, though one reviewer found the grip disappointing on heavy mud compared to the previous outsole.
— best for: Trail runners covering varied terrain — forest, mountain, rock, and moderate mud — who want a lightweight, cushioned all-rounder with reliable traction and a secure, comfortable fit.

Trail & Kale 4.5/5
GO Outdoors TV 3.5/5

Sizing guidance divides reviewers: one reviewer calls them true-to-size while two others advise sizing up, particularly to protect toes on long descents

Reviewers disagree · Peregrine 16?
Alastair Running 5.0/5
The Run Testers 3.0/5

Outsole grip quality divides reviewers: most celebrate the Vibram MegaGrip as a long-overdue upgrade, but The Run Testers found it inferior to the old power-track rubber in sustained muddy conditions

I have hiked numerous times on rough terrain with these shoes. After trying out about a half dozen other well known hiking and trail running shoes, I decided I would keep these Moab Speed 2 shoes purchased on line from REI. I found them comfortable and lightweight. They have good traction and stability, better than a typical trail running shoe. I was impressed with the lacing and tongue system. This is my 6th pair of Peregrine’s, and probably my favourite. I’ve had the 8, 10 x 2, 10 GTX, 13 GTX and now the 16s. Compared to the 13s, the 16s feel roomier with a wider toe box and mid foot. Less heel cushion that pushes you forward and shortens the shoe so I feel like I have more room. The extra cushioning is noticeable but not obtrusive. The vibram sole is very grippy.
