Critics & buyers

The human jury in one chapter — what the video reviewers score and say, the reviews behind it, and how Google buyers rate them.

What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

MultiScanner i520
across 4 reviews
2.5/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Center vision technology pinpoints stud centers accurately with visual and audio confirmation
  • Ultra bright display screen shows direction, edges, and center of studs clearly
  • Deep scan mode works through thicker material like double drywall or five-eighths inch fire-resistant walls
Reviewers push back
  • Metal and AC scanning modes start with a six-inch detection width that requires repeated on-off cycling to narrow down
  • Metal pipe detection gives only a four-inch accuracy even after multiple refinements
  • One reviewer experienced complete calibration failure where the unit detected phantom studs and missed real ones
The i520 finds stud centers accurately but its metal and AC scanning modes require multiple passes and deliver frustratingly broad detection zones.
— best for: Someone who needs reliable stud-center marking and occasionally scans through double-layer walls will use the core function successfully.
ProSensor 710
across 5 reviews
4.5/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Thirteen sensors span the full width of the device, lighting up LEDs directly over stud edges and center — no sliding technique required
  • No wall-edge calibration needed; pressing the button anywhere on the wall gives an immediate, consistent reading
  • Works through plywood and multiple layers of drywall, with a stated maximum detection depth that covers two standard drywall layers
Reviewers push back
  • Ruler markings are faint and low-contrast, reducing visibility in poor light
  • Detection reliability degrades beyond roughly 1.5 inches of wall material — three layers of half-inch drywall push or exceed its limits
  • The built-in level strikes some reviewers as a gimmick with little practical value in typical stud-finding use
Reviewers broadly agree the ProSensor 710 is a reliable, easy-to-use stud finder whose multi-sensor design eliminates the calibration frustrations common to single-sensor alternatives.
— best for: Homeowners and woodworkers who hang shelves, cabinets, or heavy objects on drywall or plywood walls and want a stud finder that works first time, every time without a calibration ritual.

Spent $52 for this at Menards. Before buying I tried the one on display. Got it home and put a battery in it. Read the instructions. Found several studs. From there forward it was useless. Scanned the QR code and watched the video. Kept trying to use it. It would keep calibrating. It would say there was a stud where there was none, so I got extra holes in my wall. I own just about all the standard stud finders out there and this one is much better and less frustrating to use….. my ultimate nemesis was my recent garage shelving project with a drywall layer over a plywood covering the studs….. I have used magnets which in this case weren’t helpful to consistently find all the studs….. this stud finder was able to find the studs as well as identify where they SW F. · everymarket.com/
