What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Spire GTX
across 4 reviews
3.5/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Vibram XS Trek outsole delivers strong traction on rocky, muddy, and loose terrain across all reviewer accounts
  • Gore-Tex Surround technology with midsole aeration channels provides meaningful breathability for a waterproof shoe
  • Reinforced PU toe cap and heel counter offer solid protection from rock strikes and debris
Reviewers push back
  • Narrow toe box causes toe compression on wider feet, even when sized up
  • Thin laces feel fragile under hard tension and come untied frequently even when double-knotted
  • Notable heel-to-toe drop is a drawback for hikers who prefer a flatter, more natural platform
A capable day-hiking shoe with outstanding Vibram traction and Gore-Tex waterproofing, held back by a narrow fit and lace durability concerns.
— best for: Day hikers who move quickly over varied terrain — rock, mud, scree — and want a lightweight, protective shoe with aggressive grip and waterproofing.
Targhee III Waterproof
across 2 reviews
2.5/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Waterproofing keeps feet dry in mud and rain without overheating
  • Strong traction on varied terrain from multidirectional lugs
  • Comfortable cushioning and arch support for long-distance wear
Reviewers push back
  • Soles separate from the upper prematurely
  • Plastic heel counter breaks and becomes unwearable
  • Heavier and bulkier than competing trail shoes
A genuinely waterproof hiking shoe with strong traction and comfort that suffers from premature durability failures in critical structural components.
— best for: Casual explorers and day hikers who prioritize waterproofing and comfort over long-term durability and weight savings.

La Sportiva North America 4.5/5

Jacob B Peterson 1.5/5

One reviewer found durability catastrophic and switched brands; the other rated construction as durable and solid

I’ve had several pairs of these great shoes. My last pair gave me 2,056 miles of use. I started wearing them April 9th, 2021 and just retired them March 20th, 2022. These shoes have been on all my journeys and at work every day. I’ve hiked in the Rockies and Wasatch mountains. They have been my constant companions in slot canyons, washes, and canyoneering. I've now had about 1.5years of experience on these on everything from roadside walking, day hikes on rocky terrian, coastal hikes, multi day hikes into the alpine of Strathcona Park on Vancouver Island and just got off the West Coast Trail. They performed very well, gave me just the right amount of support and despite the beating these trails dish out they show some dirt and small tread wear but o FrankP · mec.ca
