Reviewers praise
  • Vibram XS Trek outsole delivers strong traction on rocky, muddy, and loose terrain across all reviewer accounts
  • Gore-Tex Surround technology with midsole aeration channels provides meaningful breathability for a waterproof shoe
  • Reinforced PU toe cap and heel counter offer solid protection from rock strikes and debris
Reviewers push back
  • Narrow toe box causes toe compression on wider feet, even when sized up
  • Thin laces feel fragile under hard tension and come untied frequently even when double-knotted
  • Notable heel-to-toe drop is a drawback for hikers who prefer a flatter, more natural platform
A capable day-hiking shoe with outstanding Vibram traction and Gore-Tex waterproofing, held back by a narrow fit and lace durability concerns.
— best for: Day hikers who move quickly over varied terrain — rock, mud, scree — and want a lightweight, protective shoe with aggressive grip and waterproofing.

I’ve had several pairs of these great shoes. My last pair gave me 2,056 miles of use. I started wearing them April 9th, 2021 and just retired them March 20th, 2022. These shoes have been on all my journeys and at work every day. I’ve hiked in the Rockies and Wasatch mountains. They have been my constant companions in slot canyons, washes, and canyoneering. I go out and hike 6 - 10 miles, 3 - 4 times per week around Missoula, Montana and take longer backcountry trips during the summer. I used to wear Altra Lone Peak low tops and bought these after I broke my ankle for the added support. They took a good 20 miles or more to get broke in, but afterwards they feel amazing!! I have put well over 500 miles on the pair I currently have and they still look Caleb · topoathletic.com
