Critics & buyers

The human jury in one chapter — what the video reviewers score and say, the reviews behind it, and how Google buyers rate them.

What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Bondi 9
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Supercritical EVA midsole is noticeably softer and more responsive than its predecessor, delivering a more comfortable and engaging ride
  • Redesigned 3D molded heel collar improves heel lockdown and reduces Achilles irritation
  • Expanded rubber outsole coverage provides better durability and traction compared to previous versions
Reviewers push back
  • Running feel is firmer than the soft step-in impression suggests, as the foam compresses to a denser core rather than squishing fully through
  • Still on the heavier side for a daily trainer, even after the weight reduction from the previous version
  • Tongue is on the short side and padding throughout is modest, not the plushest option in the max-cushion category
The Bondi 9 is a significant and broadly welcomed overhaul of a long-stagnant max-cushion trainer, with a softer, more modern foam that wins over nearly all reviewers, though the ride is less plush underfoot during running than the step-in feel promises.
— best for: Runners and walkers who want maximum cushioning for easy, recovery, or long-distance road miles, especially those who found earlier Bondi versions too firm.
Guide 18
across 5 reviews
3.5/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • CenterPath stability geometry — wide platform and high sidewalls — guides the foot without feeling blocky or aggressive
  • Comfortable upper with a soft, slightly stretchy engineered mesh, good padding at the heel collar, and enough toe box room for natural splay
  • Smooth heel-to-toe transition makes it an easy, consistent shoe for daily mileage
Reviewers push back
  • PWRRUN foam lacks energy return and a lively feel; reviewers want more pop underfoot
  • Outsole rubber coverage is sparse; exposed midsole foam raises durability and wet-surface grip concerns
  • Changes from the previous version are minimal — the shoe is nearly identical to its predecessor
A comfortable, mild-stability daily trainer with a smooth ride and secure fit, let down by limited outsole rubber and a foam that lacks energy return.
— best for: Runners with mild overpronation or minor stability needs who want a plush, no-fuss daily trainer they can put on and forget about.

Reviewers disagree · Guide 18?
Alastair Running 4.0/5
The Run Testers 3.5/5

Outsole coverage divides reviewers: one reviewer accepts the exposed foam as a fair weight trade-off, while another explicitly says he would prefer more rubber even at the cost of extra weight

I’ve been running regularly for 7 years but always in less-than-ideal or even second-hand shoes. I decided to run the OC Marathon this year and since I had a dividend and a Christmas gift card, I also decided to do it in real running shoes. I ended up purchasing these Bondi 9s just four days before the marathon. I ran a 2 mile test around my block and they felt great. Same with the pre-marathon 5k ItsJeffery · REI

I Iove these shoes. I previously ran in Hoka Bondi 9 but I would get such horrible blisters. These shoes give me all the same cushion but without the blisters. Really light, great option for marathon training I’d say. One caveat- after about 2-3 runs the exterior label on the shoe started to peel off. Still giving 5 stars because they are functionally a great shoe. Riley S · saucony.com
