What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Cascadia 19
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • DNA Loft V3 midsole delivers cushioning that is plush enough for long efforts without becoming mushy or losing responsiveness
  • Generously wide toe box accommodates a broad forefoot and reduces compression and numbness on long runs
  • Trail Tack rubber with medium-depth lugs grips reliably on dry rock, hard pack, roots, and wet rock in most mixed-terrain conditions
Reviewers push back
  • Lugs clog in thick clay or heavy mud and shed dirt poorly, limiting performance in dedicated mud conditions
  • The midfoot can feel snug out of the box and requires a break-in period before the fit opens up fully
  • Midsole softens gradually with high mileage, though reviewers disagree on how significant the degradation is
It's optimally cushioned but not overly plush at the same time.
Mountaineer Journey · best for Runners and hikers who cover technical, mixed-terrain trails and want a durable, well-cushioned shoe with a wide toe box, solid rock protection, and reliable all-conditions grip.
Moab 3

4.0/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Exceptional out-of-box comfort that holds up over hundreds of miles, with a stock insole good enough that most reviewers kept it
  • Impressive sole durability — grip lugs show minimal wear even after heavy use across varied terrain
  • Wide, forgiving fit accommodates a broad range of foot shapes without hotspots or blisters
Reviewers push back
  • Traction, while adequate, is a weak spot on hard-pack and desert surfaces — other shoes outperform it on steep, demanding terrain
  • Stability ranks below comparable alternatives; the design runs wide, causing lace-down buckle and tongue wrinkle issues for narrower feet
  • Waterproofing on the non-GTX version degrades with heavy use and zero maintenance, letting water in through multiple points
The Merrell Moab 3 is a genuinely comfortable, durable all-rounder that earns its wide popularity, though it concedes ground on traction and stability to more specialized alternatives.
— best for: Hikers who want a comfortable, durable, no-fuss all-rounder for mixed terrain and occasional pavement, and who prioritise all-day comfort over peak grip or technical stability.
Reviewers disagree · Cascadia 19?
Mountaineer Journey 4.5/5
RunLetters 3.5/5

Cushioning firmness divides opinion: the hiker reviewer finds it on the firmer, confidence-inspiring side, while the trail runner reviewer emphasises its softness relative to previous versions — both impressions are accurate but shaped by different reference points

Reviewers disagree · Moab 3?
Short Reviews With Seth 4.5/5
Dusty Hikers 3.5/5

Traction divides reviewers: one found it poor on hard desert pack and ranked it third among five shoes, while others called it excellent across wet mud, rock, and mixed trail with no slipping

For someone who has rheumatoid arthritis and prior to this has osteoarthritis in my knee I would confidently say these are the most comfy shoes I've ever walked in. The Cascadia 19 is a great cross between a trail shoe and a jogger, sturdy, light and super comfortable. The rum and raisin colour scheme makes them great to wear with anything without looking too sporty. All up I would highly recommen brooksrunning.com.au

Loved using these on my trip to Acadia in Maine! I was looking to purchase a pair of On Cloud trail shoes but found a website rating these higher and they were a great choice. I broke my left leg three years ago skiing and I still have trouble maintaining stability while hiking sometimes. In these shoes, I didn’t miss a beat! Even my boyfriend complimented how much he liked them and how glad he wa merrell.com
