Critics & buyers

What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Peregrine 16
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
divided
Reviewers praise
  • Vibram MegaGrip outsole delivers confident traction on wet, rocky, and technical terrain across most test conditions
  • Increased midsole stack adds noticeable cushioning and protection over longer distances without eliminating ground feel
  • Secure, well-fitting upper with good midfoot lockdown, a roomy toe box, and comfortable heel collar straight out of the box
Reviewers push back
  • One experienced reviewer found the Vibram lugs shallower than the previous proprietary outsole, leaving grip wanting in deep, heavy mud
  • Fit may edge tight on the little toes for some runners, particularly on longer efforts
  • PWRRUN midsole foam is mid-tier — functional and durable but not Saucony's most energetic compound
The Peregrine 16 is a well-rounded trail shoe that earns broad praise for its Vibram MegaGrip outsole and added cushioning, though one reviewer found the grip disappointing on heavy mud compared to the previous outsole.
— best for: Trail runners covering varied terrain — forest, mountain, rock, and moderate mud — who want a lightweight, cushioned all-rounder with reliable traction and a secure, comfortable fit.

mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Anatomically shaped, wide toe box gives toes genuine room without sacrificing midfoot and heel lockdown
  • Zip foam midsole delivers a balanced mix of cushioning, ground feel, and rebound that beds in well over miles
  • Rocker geometry makes the ride efficient and easy underfoot on pack single track and gravel
Reviewers push back
  • Shallow 4 mm lugs limit traction on loose, muddy, or genuinely technical terrain — not a deep-mountain shoe
  • Wide fit can feel insecure for narrow-footed runners, requiring aggressive lace tension to achieve lockdown
  • On steep technical descents the foot can shift forward, causing toe bump — the shoe is out of its element there
A well-built, roomy-toed trail shoe with capable cushioning and grip for mild to moderate terrain, though it falls short on technical descents and very aggressive ground.
— best for: Runners who cover packed single track, gravel, fire roads, or road-to-trail mixed routes and want a roomy toe box with efficient, protective cushioning for efforts up to ultra distance on moderate ground.

The Run Testers 3.0/5

Outsole grip quality divides reviewers: most celebrate the Vibram MegaGrip as a long-overdue upgrade, but The Run Testers found it inferior to the old power-track rubber in sustained muddy conditions

Sizing read: one reviewer found the shoe runs slightly short and considered sizing up, while others call it true to size across the board

This is my 6th pair of Peregrine’s, and probably my favourite. I’ve had the 8, 10 x 2, 10 GTX, 13 GTX and now the 16s. Compared to the 13s, the 16s feel roomier with a wider toe box and mid foot. Less heel cushion that pushes you forward and shortens the shoe so I feel like I have more room. The extra cushioning is noticeable but not obtrusive. The vibram sole is very grippy.
