Critics & buyers

What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Peregrine 16
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
divided
Reviewers praise
  • Vibram MegaGrip outsole delivers confident traction on wet, rocky, and technical terrain across most test conditions
  • Increased midsole stack adds noticeable cushioning and protection over longer distances without eliminating ground feel
  • Secure, well-fitting upper with good midfoot lockdown, a roomy toe box, and comfortable heel collar straight out of the box
Reviewers push back
  • One experienced reviewer found the Vibram lugs shallower than the previous proprietary outsole, leaving grip wanting in deep, heavy mud
  • Fit may edge tight on the little toes for some runners, particularly on longer efforts
  • PWRRUN midsole foam is mid-tier — functional and durable but not Saucony's most energetic compound
The Peregrine 16 is a well-rounded trail shoe that earns broad praise for its Vibram MegaGrip outsole and added cushioning, though one reviewer found the grip disappointing on heavy mud compared to the previous outsole.
— best for: Trail runners covering varied terrain — forest, mountain, rock, and moderate mud — who want a lightweight, cushioned all-rounder with reliable traction and a secure, comfortable fit.

Reviewers praise
  • Matrix woven upper combines durability, breathability, and abrasion resistance — addressing blowout weaknesses of the prior model
  • Virtually no break-in period; fits comfortably and securely from the first wear
  • Gore-Tex waterproofing performs well even in submersion and prolonged wet conditions without cooking feet in heat
Reviewers push back
  • Heavier than the previous model — the durability upgrade comes with a measurable weight increase
  • Traction becomes sketchy on slick or wet rocks, particularly after crossing water onto dry stone
  • Side protection has soft spots; sharp lateral objects can still penetrate the upper material
It literally feels like I've got a pair of running shoes on right now cuz they're so lightweight.
Sun & Ski Sports · best for Hikers and backpackers who want a lightweight yet durable waterproof boot for varied terrain — especially those who experienced durability issues with the prior model or who carry significant pack weight.

Alastair Running 5.0/5
The Run Testers 3.0/5

Outsole grip quality divides reviewers: most celebrate the Vibram MegaGrip as a long-overdue upgrade, but The Run Testers found it inferior to the old power-track rubber in sustained muddy conditions

One reviewer found the wider toe box an unqualified improvement; another noted it may require tighter lacing for narrower feet to feel locked in

This is my 6th pair of Peregrine’s, and probably my favourite. I’ve had the 8, 10 x 2, 10 GTX, 13 GTX and now the 16s. Compared to the 13s, the 16s feel roomier with a wider toe box and mid foot. Less heel cushion that pushes you forward and shortens the shoe so I feel like I have more room. The extra cushioning is noticeable but not obtrusive. The vibram sole is very grippy. I bought these to do the Acatenango volcano hike in Guatemala. It's a challenging, steep overnight hike through farmlands, cloud forest and volcanic material. I was very impressed with the grip and stability they provided, and the gore-tex material kept my feet dry and warm at altitude. I would recommend these for any kind of moderate to challenging hike.
