Owners love the shoe's comfort, fit geometry, and energy return for daily training, but sizing runs small and width options need careful selection.

Brand claims2/2 true2 promises checked

The marketing's claims about support, responsiveness, and energy return are well-supported by owner feedback, which consistently rates comfort and performance highly. However, the pitch stretches on technical specifics—the ENERZY NXT cushioning, Wave midsole density, x10 outsole durability, and sustainability claims are all unverified by the available review data. Notably, owners flag a real sizing issue (4.2/5 accuracy score) that the marketing does not address.

About

What it is.

Mizuno's Wave Rider 28 sits in the Wave Rider line of neutral running shoes, built around Mizuno ENERZY NXT cushioning and a higher-density Mizuno Wave midsole that pairs support with responsiveness. An x10 outsole is aimed at withstanding repeated road mileage, while the upper and construction draw on sustainable materials.

As a daily trainer, it's suited to runners who want a straightforward, dependable shoe for everyday miles rather than a race-day specialist—something that fits predictably out of the box and holds up over sustained use.

The verdict

The Wave Rider 28 ranks #12 for beginner running shoes and earns strong buyer approval (4.7/5 stars) for comfort and responsive energy return during daily training, though buyers consistently report that sizing runs small and width selection demands careful attention.

In their words

Reviews will say this shoe is boring compared to super shoes and other brands. But you can’t beat the way mizuno’s geometry works on the foot while running. Compared to the wave rider 23 and Waveknit 3 these have so much more energy return. I tend to supinate, have a high arch, and have a little narrow feet and the 9.5 is fine but I understand why some say it runs small.
