The marketing claims about cushioning, stability, and traction are well-supported by owner reviews, which consistently praise the shoe for daily running and overpronation support. However, the pitch omits a notable caveat: owners note the shoe lacks snappy responsiveness for speed work, suggesting the "responsive" cushioning claim applies mainly to comfort rather than performance-oriented running.

About

What it is.

Part of New Balance's running line, the Fresh Foam X 860v15 is a stability shoe built for runners who overpronate or simply want extra guidance through the stride. An integrated medial post anchors the Fresh Foam X midsole, balancing soft cushioning with the support needed to keep heel-to-toe transitions controlled rather than loose.

The engineered mesh upper keeps the fit breathable and secure, while a blown rubber outsole handles traction and wear across mixed surfaces. Reflective details add visibility for low-light miles. It's suited to runners who want a dependable, no-fuss shoe from an established maker — something that performs straight out of the box without demanding a break-in period or a brand-name premium.

The verdict

The Fresh Foam X 860v15 delivers reliable stability and cushioning for daily running on flat feet, backed by strong buyer agreement, though it sacrifices the responsiveness needed for tempo work.

In their words

Best shoe on the market for flat feet over-pronators and it’s not even close. Here are the things I love about this shoe: • wide base that makes it very stable inherently • moderate firm foam that actually keep the shoe stable, there are too many shoe companies trying to mix ultra plush foam and stability and I really feel like it doesn’t work.

feetsoflat · verified purchase · newbalance.com

Good shoe overall, happy with the product. Having tested it under different conditions and paces I would say it is a good shoe for daily mileage. It would not be my go to for speed/tempo runs, the 1080 or Rebel is better suited for that as the 860 lacks some of that “pop”. The Fresh Foam X does a great job handling most runs and paces, making this shoe capable of being a daily trainer for someone
