The OnePlus 13R is a capable mid-range phone with a large battery, smooth software, and a redesigned flat display, but it trades wired charging speed for capacity and carries a lower water-resistance rating than rivals at its tier.

Owners love the fast performance, improved camera, strong battery life, and competitive pricing, but software quirks like forced ultra HDR and bloatware concerns divide some users.

OnePlus 13R delivers excellent camera zoom quality, strong battery life, and powerful gaming performance at a compelling price, though water resistance lags behind some rivals.

Brand claims2/5 true5 promises checked

The OnePlus 13R marketing is largely honest about battery capacity and endurance, which reviewers confirm delivers strong all-day performance. However, the charging speed claim stretches reality—wired charging actually dropped to 80W from the predecessor's 100W, undermining the "Smart Rapid Charge" positioning. The camera gains a telephoto lens but loses optical stabilization, a meaningful trade-off the marketing doesn't highlight.

About

What it is.

OnePlus 13R sits in OnePlus's Android smartphone lineup, built around the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and a 120Hz OLED display at 6.78 inches. Storage runs 256GB or 512GB with 12GB or 16GB RAM options, dual SIM support (Nano SIM/eSIM), and an IP65 dust/water-resistance rating. Camera hardware pairs a 50MP main sensor with wide, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses, while SuperVOOC charging handles top-ups; security relies on facial recognition and a fingerprint scanner.

It's built for Android users who want dependable battery life, smooth day-to-day performance, and a solid main camera in a familiar flat-screen form, without paying for extremes in charging speed or water resistance. Positioning centers on battery capacity, display quality, AI-assisted performance, camera output, and cooling system design.

The verdict

OnePlus 13R is a mid-range Android smartphone made by OnePlus. Released in 2024, designed in China. The device carries a 6.78-inch AMOLED display and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version processor. Budget-conscious buyers choose it for flagship performance at half the cost of premium competitors. AI assistants currently rank it third among best smartphones under five hundred dollars.

AI summary of 5 reviews · as of Jun 2026

The OnePlus 13R is a capable mid-range phone with a large battery, smooth software, and a redesigned flat display, but it trades wired charging speed for capacity and carries a lower water-resistance rating than rivals at its tier.

What they praise

  • Large 6,000 mAh battery delivers strong all-day and into-next-day endurance across reviewer testing
  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip handles everyday tasks and gaming smoothly with fast, fluid OxygenOS animations
  • Flat 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display is bright, sharp, and makes screen protector fitting straightforward
  • Addition of a 50 MP telephoto lens improves portrait and 2x zoom shots compared to its predecessor
  • Four years of OS updates and six years of security patches, plus a lifetime warranty on green-line display defects

What they knock

  • Wired charging speed dropped from 100W to 80W versus the predecessor, and no wireless charging is included
  • Only IP65 water resistance — reviewers note comparable rivals offer stronger water protection
  • Telephoto lens lacks optical image stabilisation, causing blur in low light or with unsteady hands
  • Optical fingerprint scanner was moved to a lower position that multiple reviewers found less ergonomic than its predecessor's placement
  • Bloatware and pre-installed ad-serving apps ship out of the box, requiring manual disabling

In their words

This is my 2nd consecutive OnePlus, and I have zero regrets buying it. Just the right thing to upgrade to from the older 8T model. It is visibly faster, it runs longer on a full charge, and what really impressed me is the camera, which is hugely better than the one in the old phone. One more thing is how smooth the transition was from an old phone to a new one.

Brutus · verified purchase · bestbuy.ca

Very good deal of what you get for the money. Nice main and selfie camera, battery life, performance, etc. The phone is far away from compact thou, so make sure you come to the store to check if it fits. One negative thing, is that ultra HDR can't be disabled neither when you take nor when you view photos outside of built-in gallery app, making wired image display behavior in apps.
