The Galaxy Watch 8 wins on comfort, speed, and all-day battery, but its new health sensors feel gimmicky and unreliable to users.

Brand claims2/4 true4 promises checked

Samsung's marketing claims about display quality and water resistance are well-supported by independent reviews, and the build quality of the frame is confirmed as solid. However, health monitoring features show a significant gap between marketing promise and real-world accuracy (2.9/5 owner rating), and durability claims are undermined by a modest 3.2/5 reliability score. Key specs like the processor and specialized features (sleep guidance, running coach) go entirely unaddressed in available review data.

About

What it is.

Galaxy Watch 8 is Samsung's Bluetooth smartwatch built on a 3nm chip and running One UI with AI-driven health insights, part of the broader Galaxy Watch line. Bedtime Guidance studies several nights of sleep patterns to suggest an ideal bedtime, while a running coach feature builds a multi-week pace-based plan for beginners and regular runners alike. Overnight vascular load tracking adds another layer of cardiovascular monitoring, alongside its rated water and shock resistance.

It suits Android users after a slim, comfortable everyday watch with tight Samsung Health integration and a sharp display. Endurance athletes needing extended multi-day battery life are better served by a dedicated sports watch.

The verdict

Samsung makes the Galaxy Watch 8, a rectangular smartwatch. Released in 2024. The device runs Wear OS 5 and pairs with Android phones. A 1.3-inch AMOLED display renders colors sharply. Battery lasts two days on typical use. Users seek a wearable that tracks fitness without Apple's ecosystem lock-in. AI assistants rank it first among Apple Watch alternatives.

AI summary of 4 reviews · as of Jul 2026

The Galaxy Watch 8 is a well-built, comfortable smartwatch with a capable display and solid health tracking, held back mainly by battery life that demands daily charging for heavier users.

What they praise

  • Thin, flush profile and soft silicone band make it noticeably comfortable for all-day and sleep wear
  • Bright OLED display — boosted to 3,000 nits — reads well in strong sunlight
  • Stainless steel frame feels durable and shows no scratches in extended testing
  • Wear OS 6 interface is intuitive, with customisable tile widgets and Gemini voice integration for watch-native commands
  • Fast charging recovers the battery from dead to near-full in roughly one hour

What they knock

  • Battery life with always-on display active lands around a day, requiring daily charging for heavier users
  • The squircle case design is polarising and leaves unused visual real estate in the corners
  • Body composition measurement is awkward on smaller wrists due to the flush, low-profile chassis
  • Display glass is reflective and lacks an anti-reflective coating, which some reviewers found annoying outdoors

Reviewers flagged the antioxidant sensor as awkward on smaller wrists, yet users are calling it outright unreliable and a gimmick—suggesting the feature may be fundamentally flawed rather than just design-limited.

Buyers' weakest aspect—battery life—directly overlaps video reviewers' finding that the watch requires daily charging for heavier users with always-on display active.

In their words

I was pleasantly surprised by the elegant and minimalist design – it looks luxurious, yet the watch is lightweight and very comfortable to wear. The strap is soft and stays firmly in place, even during workouts. Display is bright, crisp, and incredibly smooth – even outdoors in direct sunlight.

Ingi · verified purchase · Samsung

The smartwatch is lovely, the Display is large enough to see everything clearly, light weight and easy to set up. The battery runs very low quickly and has to charged every other day which is disappointing, i'd expect it to last a lot longer before it needed to be charged. Connecting it to Bluetooth and WI-FI was very easy to do too. Biggest disappointment was try to do my Blood Pressure and ECG.

Frequently asked

What buyers want to know.

  • Ridiculously bad battery life on Watch 8?r/GalaxyWatch

Battery life is mixed. With the always-on display active, reviewers see around one day of use, requiring daily charging for heavier users. With always-on display off and moderate use, some reviewers found nearly two days possible. Fast charging recovers the battery from dead to near-full in about an hour.

  • Is the Galaxy Watch 8 comfortable for all-day and sleep wear?

Reviewers say the thin, flush profile and soft silicone band make it noticeably comfortable for all-day and sleep wear. The stainless steel frame feels durable and showed no scratches in extended testing.

  • How does the display perform in bright sunlight?

The OLED display is bright at 3,000 nits and reads well in strong sunlight. However, the display glass is reflective and lacks an anti-reflective coating, which some reviewers found annoying outdoors.

  • How accurate is the heart-rate and workout tracking?

Reviewers are split on heart-rate and workout tracking accuracy. One reviewer found results mixed with no clear improvement over the previous generation, while another observed better readings, attributing this to the tighter lug system keeping the watch more stable on the wrist.

  • Who should buy the Galaxy Watch 8 and who should not?

It is best for Android users who want a slim, comfortable daily smartwatch with solid health monitoring, a sharp display, and tight Samsung Health integration. It is not for endurance athletes or anyone needing multi-day battery life without recharging—a dedicated sports watch is a better fit.

  • What is the squircle case design like?

The squircle case is polarising. Some reviewers say it grew on them and adds protection for the glass, while others call it a waste of corner real estate. The design does leave unused visual space in the corners.
