The verdict

What the panel makes of it.

The Guide 17 earns strong marks for arch support and long-run comfort, placing it fourth among shoes for flat feet, though buyer satisfaction splits over durability concerns and design shifts from prior generations. At $80, it delivers proven cushioning for daily running, but longevity falls short of Saucony's marketing claims.

In their words

I love these shoes so much. I had always struggled with finding shoes that don’t hurt my feet. I am always on my feet working as a nurse and had recently been suffering from plantar fasciitis from wearing incorrect shoes with little support. I then found out I have wide and flat feet!

Stitching coming undone on both shoes after a month. I purchased these as a replacement for my Hokas which are a fortune, but I’m realizing are a much better shoe than these Sauconys. Stitching is coming unone on the inside and outside of the shoes at the ankle. The fit is great and they are very comfortable otherwise. Just Don’t know how long they’ll last now.

What the data shows

While owners confirm strong comfort and arch support for daily and longer runs, durability issues (3.2/5 build quality) and design changes (3/5 drop & feel vs. previous versions) suggest the cushioning stack may not deliver the promised 'daily' reliability.

Find your situation?

Made for some — wrong for others.

Value-Maximizerprice first

You want solid running shoes without overspending on premium branding.

Good fit

At ~$80, the Guide 17 delivers strong arch support and comfort with a 4.6/5 rating—solid fundamentals at a mid-range price that undercuts premium rivals without sacrificing core performance.

Reliability-Seekerproven & safe

You need a proven shoe you can trust to perform consistently on regular runs.

Good fit

Saucony is an established brand, 260 reviews show broad consensus, and the Guide line is a mature product with settled performance—low-risk choice for dependable daily running.

Simplifierjust works

You want a running shoe that works right out of the box without fussing.

Good fit

Stability and cushioning are built-in; no special setup or tuning needed—just lace and run. High comfort and arch support mean it suits most feet without configuration.

Quality Perfectionistbest-in-class

You demand top-tier quality with no compromises across every dimension.

Could fit

While comfort and arch support are strong, build quality and durability rate low, and fit consistency is mid—clear quality gaps prevent a perfectionist fit despite solid ratings.

Enthusiastjoy & aesthetics

You love running shoes that delight you with design, feel, or sensory appeal.

Not for you

Reviews focus on functional stability and comfort, not passionate praise for aesthetics or experience—a capable workhorse that doesn't inspire the emotional connection enthusiasts seek. Consider Clifton 10.

Premium Connoisseurbrand & status

You seek prestige and flagship design from an elite running brand.

Not for you

Saucony is respected but not positioned as a luxury connoisseur brand; the Guide 17 is utilitarian and mid-market, lacking the premium cachet or design story that appeals to this buyer. Consider Bondi 9.
