About

What it is.

Arc Ultra is Sonos's flagship soundbar, positioned within the Arc Ultra family of home theater electronics. It uses Sound Motion technology to widen the soundstage and applies Dolby Atmos processing to build a 9.1.4 spatial audio picture from a single unit, with AI-driven Speech Enhancement isolating dialogue from surrounding sound. Control runs through the TV remote, Sonos app, onboard touch controls, Sonos Voice Control, or Amazon Alexa, with WiFi and Bluetooth streaming available independent of the TV.

It serves buyers who want one soundbar to carry bass, dialogue clarity, and Atmos-style immersion without assembling a full surround rig, while still allowing expansion with a Sonos Sub or Era 300 rear speakers. It's built for households centralizing home theater and multi-room audio around a single trusted system, not for setups needing several direct HDMI inputs on the bar itself.

The verdict

The Arc Ultra delivers notably deeper bass and a wider soundstage than the original Arc, making it a strong choice for anyone wanting immersive audio from a single soundbar, though its single HDMI input and awkwardly placed controls limit flexibility for complex setups.

AI summary of 5 reviews · as of Jul 2026

Reviewers agree the Arc Ultra delivers noticeably deeper, more balanced bass and a wider soundstage than its predecessor, at the cost of a still-limited single HDMI input and a mic switch some find awkward to reach.

What they praise

  • Significantly deeper, richer bass thanks to the new woofer design, even without a subwoofer
  • Wider, more immersive soundstage with better center-channel clarity
  • More balanced, neutral tonal response from bass through treble compared to the original
  • Easy setup and automatic room calibration via the app
  • Retains compatibility with existing wall mounts and expandable surround/sub options

What they knock

  • Only one HDMI input with no pass-through, tying up the TV's eARC port
  • Microphone mute switch and Bluetooth pairing button are awkwardly placed, especially when wall-mounted
  • Still can't fully replicate discrete rear-channel placement without added speakers
  • App has had reliability issues in the past, though reviewers found current setup smooth

In their words

First off I unpacked the Arc Ultra and placed it on the kitchen counter so I could test it out while unpacking the rest of the system. Setup using the Sonos app was very easy and intuitive. The soundbar all on its own blew me away. I have an open concept Kitchen/Living room. The sound filled the room and was crisp and clear. Even without the sub there was adequate, punchy bass.

Got this unit to hook up to the new TV as it was sometimes hard to hear actors speech on the standard TV speakers. It certainly adds some clarity, nicer sounding action scenes and the background noise immersed you in scenes. However, you MUST have the SONOS app and theres a lack of control ability. Two eq options "treble or bass" on a +/- 10 scale nothing else.

13

Frequently asked

What buyers want to know.

  • Is Arc Ultra better than the original Arc?

Reviewers say the Arc Ultra delivers noticeably deeper, richer bass and a wider soundstage with clearer center-channel sound than the original. It has a more balanced tonal response overall. However, reviewers disagree on whether the upgrade is worth it if you already own the original Arc.

  • Is it worth getting Sonos Arc Ultra?

It's a strong choice if you want a single soundbar that delivers immersive audio with deep bass without needing a full surround setup. The tradeoff is a single HDMI input that ties up your TV's eARC port, and control buttons that are awkwardly placed when wall-mounted.

  • Do I need a subwoofer with the Arc Ultra?

Reviewers are split on this. One says a subwoofer is still necessary for deep bass, while another argues the built-in bass may be enough for smaller rooms. The Arc Ultra does deliver significantly deeper bass than the original without an additional subwoofer.

  • Is Sonos Arc Ultra overkill?

Not if you want strong bass and wide Atmos-like immersion from a single soundbar. It's overkill only if you don't plan to expand your system or if you need multiple HDMI inputs directly on the soundbar.

  • What are the main limitations of the Arc Ultra?

It has only one HDMI input with no pass-through, which ties up your TV's eARC port. The microphone mute switch and Bluetooth pairing button are awkwardly positioned, especially when wall-mounted. It also cannot fully replicate discrete rear-channel placement without added speakers.

  • Can I use the Arc Ultra with existing Sonos speakers?

Yes. The Arc Ultra retains compatibility with existing wall mounts and can expand with surround speakers and subwoofer options. Setup is straightforward, and automatic room calibration is available through the app.
