Critics & buyers

What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Gel-Kayano 31
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • Exceptional cushioning that balances softness with enough structure for long runs, achieved through FF Blast Plus Eco foam and PureGEL heel cushioning
  • 4D Guidance System delivers stability in a natural, non-oppressive way that works for both overpronators and neutral runners
  • Plush, well-padded upper with a secure heel pocket, gusseted tongue, and comfortable heel collar that rarely causes irritation
Reviewers push back
  • The heel can feel clunky or cumbersome on tired legs or at slower paces, lacking a smooth rocker transition
  • Breathability is moderate at best — the upper runs warm in hot conditions despite adequate ventilation
  • The shoe is visually blocky and bulky; multiple reviewers note it sacrifices aesthetics for function
A well-built, highly cushioned stability shoe that earns broad praise for comfort and smooth support, with minor criticism for occasional clunkiness and a bulky appearance.
— best for: Overpronators, flat-footed runners, and those prone to lower-limb injuries who want a daily trainer with maximum cushioned stability for easy and long runs.
Guide 18
across 5 reviews
3.5/5

Reviewers praise
  • CenterPath stability geometry — wide platform and high sidewalls — guides the foot without feeling blocky or aggressive
  • Comfortable upper with a soft, slightly stretchy engineered mesh, good padding at the heel collar, and enough toe box room for natural splay
  • Smooth heel-to-toe transition makes it an easy, consistent shoe for daily mileage
Reviewers push back
  • PWRRUN foam lacks energy return and a lively feel; reviewers want more pop underfoot
  • Outsole rubber coverage is sparse; exposed midsole foam raises durability and wet-surface grip concerns
  • Changes from the previous version are minimal — the shoe is nearly identical to its predecessor
A comfortable, mild-stability daily trainer with a smooth ride and secure fit, let down by limited outsole rubber and a foam that lacks energy return.
— best for: Runners with mild overpronation or minor stability needs who want a plush, no-fuss daily trainer they can put on and forget about.
Reviewers disagree · Gel-Kayano 31?
Run Tall with Tim 4.5/5
Running in Japan 3.5/5

On midsole softness: one reviewer felt the 31 is noticeably softer than the 30, while another was uncertain whether the change would feel meaningful underfoot

Reviewers disagree · Guide 18?
Alastair Running 4.0/5
The Run Testers 3.5/5

Outsole coverage divides reviewers: one reviewer accepts the exposed foam as a fair weight trade-off, while another explicitly says he would prefer more rubber even at the cost of extra weight

Comfortability:5 stars Quality:5 stars Suitability:5 stars This is what i think of the shoes:- • Stability: This shoe shines in providing support for overpronators. It uses ASICS’s “4D GUIDANCE” system (medial foam block + wide base) to help keep the foot from rolling inwards. • Cushioning & comfort: The midsole uses FF BLAST + ECO foam + a PureGEL insert in the heel, giving a plush, protective shopee.com.my

Blister prevention4.2
I Iove these shoes. I previously ran in Hoka Bondi 9 but I would get such horrible blisters. These shoes give me all the same cushion but without the blisters. Really light, great option for marathon training I’d say. One caveat- after about 2-3 runs the exterior label on the shoe started to peel off. Still giving 5 stars because they are functionally a great shoe. Riley S · saucony.com
