Owners love the hands-off automation and navigation, but cleaning power divides them—especially for pet hair—with some finding it inadequate for their needs.

The Q8 Max+ impresses with smart self-emptying, room mapping, and pet hair handling, though water tank capacity and hair management remain pain points.

Brand claims3/5 true5 promises checked

The Roborock Q8 Max+ marketing is honest about its automation, navigation, and obstacle avoidance strengths, which owner reviews consistently validate. However, the suction power claim overstates real-world performance, particularly for pet hair where owners report significant frustration, and the mopping benefit is undermined by a water tank that owners find too small for extended use.

About

What it is.

Q8 Max+ sits within Roborock's robot vacuum lineup, built as a combination vacuum-and-mop unit paired with an auto-empty dock for hands-off dirt disposal. It uses a dual-roller brush design in place of a traditional single roller, aimed at pulling in debris and pet hair while resisting tangles, and relies on Reactive Tech obstacle-avoidance sensing to navigate around furniture, cords, and clutter during cleaning runs.

The unit is finished in black, weighs around 18 lb, and runs cordless for full-room coverage without a tether. It suits households wanting a floor-care system that handles daily vacuuming and mopping with reduced manual emptying, fitting into general home upkeep alongside other connected cleaning appliances in the category.

The verdict

In their words

The Roborock Q8 Max+ has made cleaning effortless. It navigates smoothly rarely gets stuck and covers every corner without missing spots. I just wish it had a bigger water tank for extended mopping sessions. While no vacuum is perfect this one has cut down my cleaning time significantly making it 100% worth it. Highly recommended for a stress-free home!

This will not replace your regular vacuum cleaner! The Q8 I bought is not pet friendly at all. Every time i use it, I have to remove the rollers and clean the dog fur off the bearings else the rollers drag and cause the vacuum to run on high constantly. The suction isn't that great either. It will not pick up all the dog fur. I have to go back over all the rugs with a normal vacuum to get all the

Frequently asked

What buyers want to know.

  • Does the Q8 Max+ handle pet hair well?

Reviewers say it picks up pet hair effectively with a dual-roller brush that resists tangling. Strong suction handles hair across carpet, hardwood, and fine debris without frequent maintenance thanks to the self-emptying dock.

  • What is the main weakness of the Q8 Max+?

Reviewers agree that object avoidance is basic and inconsistent—it sometimes gets too close to items or misses them, especially around cords and pet waste. Edge cleaning also underperforms, leaving debris near walls.

  • Who should buy the Q8 Max+?

It is best for pet owners and households with mixed flooring who want strong suction and low-maintenance emptying. Skip it if you need flawless obstacle avoidance around cords and pet waste, or a fully automated mop-cleaning base station.

  • How good is the mopping feature?

Reviewers note adjustable water levels give consistent, tunable results. The mop pad does not lift automatically when crossing carpet, so you may need to remove it manually to avoid soaking your rugs.

  • How accurate is the mapping and app?

Reviewers say the laser mapping is fast and accurate, and the app is easy to use with detailed customization options for cleaning routines and zones.

  • Does performance vary between floor types?

Reviewers are split—one found tile pickup slightly weaker than carpet, while another measured near-perfect debris removal across all surfaces. Strong suction generally handles hardwood and carpet well.
