What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

990v6
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • FuelCell midsole makes this the lightest and most comfortable 990 model, noticeably bouncier than previous versions
  • High-quality suede and mesh construction maintains the made-in-USA build standard
  • Versatile enough to work as both a lifestyle sneaker and light-duty walking or running shoe
Reviewers push back
  • Streamlined design without the traditional midfoot saddle panel looks too plain or unfamiliar to some longtime fans
  • Midfoot area feels more snug than previous 990 models
  • Previous 990 models caused blisters for at least one reviewer, though the v6 resolved this
Reviewers agree the 990v6 is the most comfortable iteration in the 990 line, with notably lightweight FuelCell cushioning and a more streamlined design that divides opinion but works exceptionally well for all-day wear.
— best for: People seeking all-day comfort in a durable lifestyle sneaker who value quality materials and don't mind a functional, understated aesthetic.
Old Skool

divided
Reviewers praise
  • Strong board feel and grip for skating, suitable for street and transition
  • Comfortable fit that runs true to size with a slightly wider toe box
  • Elastic tongue straps keep the tongue in place and make slip-on easier
Reviewers push back
  • ComfyCush cushioning feels only marginally better than standard foam and unremarkable compared to other brands
  • Higher foxing tape on Skate version requires break-in and adjusting flick technique
  • ComfyCush version feels narrower than the original, potentially causing toe pinching
The Old Skool is a comfortable, versatile sneaker with good board feel and classic styling, though reviewers differ on which version delivers the best experience.
— best for: Skaters who want classic Vans board feel with modern reinforcements, and casual wearers who spend long hours on their feet and value a lighter shoe with arch support.

Where reviewers split on 990v6: Aesthetics split reviewers: some call it the best-looking 990 while others say it looks like generic sneakers or even Skechers On Old Skool: One reviewer found the stock insole caused toe knuckle pain and swapped it out; others had no fit issues

The stock photos really don't do these justice. They're super clean looking and that creamy white suede provides a beautiful contrast! And of course, the comfort is phenomenal! Alternate laces are always nice but I wish they had gone with a black or cream/sail color instead of the plum. Other than that, pretty much perfection! joesnewbalanceoutlet.com
