What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

Cascadia 17
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
divided
Reviewers praise
  • Outstanding traction and grip across wet, muddy, rocky, and technical terrain
  • Exceptional comfort with roomy toe box, no break-in needed, and DNA Loft V2 cushioning
  • Very durable construction—outsole and lugs hold up well over long distances
Reviewers push back
  • Weight runs heavy for a trail shoe—eleven to thirteen ounces depending on size
  • Upper mesh is thick and less breathable, feet can overheat in warmer conditions
  • Durability concerns around the upper mesh and soft rubber overlays, not the outsole

Reviewers praise
  • Vibram XS Trek outsole delivers strong traction on rocky, muddy, and loose terrain across all reviewer accounts
  • Gore-Tex Surround technology with midsole aeration channels provides meaningful breathability for a waterproof shoe
  • Reinforced PU toe cap and heel counter offer solid protection from rock strikes and debris
Reviewers push back
  • Narrow toe box causes toe compression on wider feet, even when sized up
  • Thin laces feel fragile under hard tension and come untied frequently even when double-knotted
  • Notable heel-to-toe drop is a drawback for hikers who prefer a flatter, more natural platform
A capable day-hiking shoe with outstanding Vibram traction and Gore-Tex waterproofing, held back by a narrow fit and lace durability concerns.
— best for: Day hikers who move quickly over varied terrain — rock, mud, scree — and want a lightweight, protective shoe with aggressive grip and waterproofing.

Where reviewers split on Cascadia 17: One reviewer found the midsole stiffer than expected for DNA Loft V2, while others praised its cushioned balance On Spire GTX: Breathability divides reviewers: the brand channel and Sportsman's Warehouse praise the aeration channels as effective, while Yona Trek found foot sweat unchanged compared to non-breathable shoes

I’ve had several pairs of these great shoes. My last pair gave me 2,056 miles of use. I started wearing them April 9th, 2021 and just retired them March 20th, 2022. These shoes have been on all my journeys and at work every day. I’ve hiked in the Rockies and Wasatch mountains. They have been my constant companions in slot canyons, washes, and canyoneering.
