Short answer?

Take L20 Ultra if you weight buyer ratings; take S8 Pro Ultra if the AI ranking and a lower price matter more. That's where they diverge — elsewhere they're close.

How this is made

Built from what 3 AI models (ChatGPT · Perplexity · Claude) recommend for real buyer questions, layered with reviewer test summaries, Google buyer ratings, street prices and press. The short answer and verdict are derived from where those signals diverge — not written by hand for either product.

What reviewers say

Distilled from the video reviewers — the score, what they praise, where they push back.?

L20 Ultra
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
divided
Reviewers praise
  • Very strong 7000 Pascal suction handles debris well on carpets and hard floors
  • Extendable mop arm reaches within 2mm of walls and furniture edges
  • Can lift mops 10.5mm or remove them entirely at the base before vacuuming carpets
Reviewers push back
  • Navigation can be inefficient with slow speeds and misidentification of objects like wall corners and rug edges
  • Cleaning solution and replacement mop pads are expensive consumables
  • Base station tray design with holes requires separate cleaning of both tray and dock interior
Reviewers agree the L20 Ultra is one of the most feature-rich robot vacuums available, with strong suction and innovative mopping technology, though navigation quirks and high consumable costs frustrate some users.
— best for: Homeowners with large mixed-surface areas who want automation and are willing to maintain consumables for features like automated water plumbing, detergent injection, and self-removing mop pads.
S8 Pro Ultra
across 5 reviews
4.0/5
mixed
Reviewers praise
  • The all-in-one dock automatically empties the dustbin, refills and washes the mop pad, and dries it, making the system nearly hands-free over extended periods.
  • VibraRise 2.0 mopping module with dual vibrating elements delivers noticeably better stain and dried-spill removal compared to the previous generation.
  • Mop pad lifts clear of carpet, allowing combined vacuuming and mopping of mixed-floor homes in a single run without wetting rugs.
Reviewers push back
  • Stretched or loose wires remain a consistent weak point — the robot frequently tangles its side brush or suction rolls on them regardless of sensor setup.
  • Removal of the RGB camera eliminates the remote home-monitoring function present on the previous generation, and at least one reviewer found obstacle avoidance slightly worse as a result.
  • Carpet deep-cleaning suction and airflow tested lower than expected for the stated power rating, with mixed results in embedded-debris tests across reviewers.
A highly capable robot vacuum and mop with an exceptional all-in-one dock, strong mopping performance, and solid navigation, held back by inconsistent obstacle avoidance on wires and a dual-brush system that delivers less carpet deep-cleaning improvement than expected.
— best for: Owners of mixed hard-floor and carpeted homes who want a near-autonomous cleaning routine with minimal manual emptying, refilling, or mop maintenance.

Where reviewers split on L20 Ultra: Mopping performance divided some reviewers—two found it excellent at dried stains, one noted it missed spots with hot sauce On S8 Pro Ultra: Obstacle avoidance quality relative to the prior generation divides reviewers: one found it worse (more cord tangles), while another's standardized tests scored it equal to or slightly better than before.

I love the dream L20. I love that it can be mapped and programmed to do exactly what you need on the day. I love that it self cleans. It very very really gets stuck and that’s only if something is not picked up properly and gets tangled up. I have tiles that usually leave streaks and this leaves my tiles perfect! And the carpets look like new due to now getting a daily vacuum. Highly recommend the harveynorman.com.au

The only vacuum cleaner with a brain, and the only robot vacuum cleaner that actually does what it was designed to do to do. We bought and returned the other robot vacuum cleaner because they just zip in every direction, stupid and no why to know for sure everything was cleaned. Not only does RoboRock Vacuums clean in straight uniform lines they show you in the app. Pets? we have 3 dogs, they all RRien07 · us.roborock.com
