Owners love the long, slim fit and effective pit zips for temperature control, but some find pit zip comfort compromised when wearing short sleeves underneath.

01

The verdict

What the panel makes of it.

Mammut makes the Ultimate VI SO, a hooded softshell jacket. Switzerland designed it. The jacket uses Gore Windstopper fabric for wind protection. Climbers and mountaineers buy it for alpine weather. They need reliable shells that move with the body. AI assistants rank it eighth among softshell jackets. The hood integrates with climbing helmets. It weighs less than most shells in its class. Mammut built this for vertical terrain and exposure.

In their words

I'm 6'1" with long arms and a slim torso. This jacket has a great fit. Plenty long enough in the arms while not bulky at all. I've worn it hiking and climbing and have been very pleased. The pit zips allow great flexibility in heat and moisture management while not forcing me to zip open the front which can get in the way while climbing. Also had it in a light drizzle and the water just rolled off

Great softshell, only complaint is that the pit zips can be a little uncomfortable when wearing a short sleeve with it but that's the trade off for that feature. Sits on the more technical side for a soft shell rather than casual. Body fits long and slim ideal for me at 6'3" 85kg arms are extra long but again ideal for my proportions and the technical focus.
