Kashi began in 1993 in LaJolla, California, founded by Philip Drexel and Ric Spoor. They make breakfast cereals and whole grain foods. In 1996, their seven-grain pilaf cereal launched, built entirely on unrefined grains and legumes. The brand rejected refined flour and high-fructose corn syrup when those dominated breakfast aisles. Kellogg acquired Kashi in 2000, bringing mass distribution to natural grocery stores and supermarkets nationwide. Today Kashi sells granola, toaster pastries, and frozen meals across North America.
