Anki started in San Francisco in 2010. Boris Sofman, Hanson Robotics' former VP, co-founded the robotics company. They built consumer robots that learned through play. Cozmo, their AI-powered desk robot, became their signature product. Released in 2016, Cozmo combined machine learning with physical robotics for homes. The robot recognized faces, expressed emotions, and played games. Anki expanded into Vector, a more advanced home robot, in 2018. The company faced financial collapse in 2019 but was acquired.
