About

What it is.

Novablast 5 is ASICS's neutral daily trainer, part of the Novablast line within the brand's running footwear range. It's built around a full-length FF BLAST MAX midsole for cushioning and rebound, paired with an AHAR LO rubber outsole for grip and durability, and a rockered geometry that shapes the transition from landing to toe-off. The upper uses engineered jacquard mesh for stretch and ventilation.

It's suited to runners who want one shoe to cover varied training days — easy runs, tempo work, and general mileage — rather than a specialist tool for racing or trail use. As a versatile trainer, it fits those prioritizing all-around comfort and ride quality over a narrowly tuned performance profile.

The verdict

Buyers and AI analysis align on the Novablast 5 as a strong beginner's shoe, praised for comfort, durability, and responsive cushioning at around $130, though some report a stiff break-in period and occasional manufacturing inconsistencies. The 4.8/5 rating from over 12,000 owners suggests the trade-off favors newcomers seeking reliable everyday running shoes.

In their words

The Novablast 5 is an INREDIBLE daily running shoe! They are lightweight and the rocker feels springy and keeps you going. I've run through 2 pairs of these and just picked up my third. And my goodness are they durable. My current pair I have at almost 550 miles (Garmin Connect screenshot for proof) and they STILL feel amazing.

Aaron · verified purchase · scheels.com

The shoe itself is great. Super comfortable and great bounce but customer service does not stand behind the product. My pair did not come with a QC/QA sticker in the box when I initially received which I thought was strange. I didn’t really think anything of it though. I ran in the shoe a few miles and noticed one shoe felt off from the other. I immediately weighed the left shoe and right shoe.

Loses bounce and cushioning after 100 miles of use

Moderate severity

Owners report the shoe's bounce and cushioning degrade significantly around 100 miles of running; the 4.8★ rating built from early reviews may understate this durability issue that emerges over months of use.
