The verdict

What the panel makes of it.

The VivoBook 15 ranks sixth among student laptops and earns a solid 4.3/5 from nearly 1,700 buyers who consistently praise its build quality, speed, and value—though battery degradation and heat concerns temper enthusiasm for some, and it suits buyers prioritizing a reliable mainstream choice over edge-case performance.

In their words

I don’t buy laptops often so I expect this to last a long time. My old laptop wasn’t upgradable to WIN11 so this was a deciding factor. Build quality on the Asus is excellent and the screen resolution is amazing. Equally impressive specs with the intel i5 processor and 16 gb RAM. Zero lag time to load complex 3D models and video editing tasks.

DO NOT GET THIS! I brought this in 2024, thinking it was a good set up. The 1TB storage was great. It seemed fast instore, the colours great. It's light. The colour impressive. AFTER 9 months though - It has trouble staying connected to a VPN causing constant buffering at times. Currently the battery is dying faster each week, the drain is massive.

Find your situation?

Made for some — wrong for others.

Value-Maximizerprice first

You need a capable everyday laptop without breaking the bank.

Good fit

Mid-range street price with strong 4.3/5 rating and solid build quality, performance, and durability make it a genuine value play for basic-to-moderate computing needs.

Reliability-Seekerproven & safe

You want a proven, low-risk laptop from an established maker.

Good fit

ASUS is a mature brand with 1664 reviews showing broad consensus; the VivoBook line is settled and widely adopted, reducing buyer risk.

Simplifierjust works

You want a laptop that works out of the box without fiddling.

Could fit

Consumer-grade ASUS laptop with straightforward setup; no gaming or workstation complexity, though mid-tier keyboard and display suggest some trade-offs in polish.

Quality Perfectionistbest-in-class

You demand the best-in-class laptop with no compromises.

Not for you

Weak battery life and thermal management, mid-tier display and keyboard, and mid-tier rating undercut perfectionist expectations despite solid build and performance. Consider ThinkPad E14.

Premium Connoisseurbrand & status

You seek prestige and flagship design from an elite brand.

Not for you

VivoBook is ASUS's utilitarian consumer line, not a premium flagship; the budget price point and generic positioning conflict with connoisseur expectations. Consider Modern 14.
