Owners praise the espresso quality, retro design, and durability, but divide on milk frothing performance and the small basket capacity limiting double-shot options.

Brand claims3/5 true5 promises checked

The marketing is honest about espresso quality, durability, and design appeal—all well-supported by owner ratings. However, the portafilter claim overstates double-shot capability since the basket is too small for proper double-shot volumes, and milk frothing performance is overstated given the divided owner experience and moderate 3.8/5 score.

The basket capacity issue that buyers flag (review 1) aligns with the portafilter design weakness, limiting espresso customization.

In their words

It’s perfect in my kitchen because I have the whole delonghi range in this lovely colour green. It has a retro feel to it, the milk frother is excellent, foams up in no time for that perfect cappuccino or flat white. The espresso shots are creamy, smooth and taste lovely. I’m very impressed with this and I enjoy making one every morning. Easy to clean and easy to use :)

This device seems well made and looks good, but falls short in one respect, from my viewpoint. I like to make a double shot for a tall latte. Coffee guides recommend 18 gms of ground coffee for a double shot. My old coffee maker took the 18 gms and made a good strong shot. I used the measurer/tamper that come with the DeLonghi and the measure only holds about 10 gms, with a 'flat top' load.

Find your situation?

Made for some — wrong for others.

Value-Maximizerprice first

You want real espresso at home without spending a fortune or learning barista skills.

Good fit

Low street price ($100–150) with strong 4.3/5 rating and high espresso quality marks a rare value sweet spot; no cheaper rival delivers comparable taste and build quality.

Reliability-Seekerproven & safe

You need a proven, low-risk espresso machine with broad consensus and staying power.

Good fit

3570 ratings show strong consensus; De'Longhi is an established brand; high build quality marks it as a settled, mature product with minimal buyer regret.

Enthusiastjoy & aesthetics

You love the ritual and sensory joy of making espresso, and want a machine that delights.

Could fit

High espresso quality and design aesthetics appeal to enthusiasts; semi-automatic operation engages the user in the craft, though mid-tier frothing limits the full experience.

Simplifierjust works

You want espresso to work out of the box with minimal fuss or learning curve.

Could fit

Mid-tier ease-of-use rating and semi-automatic operation require some technique; not a true plug-and-play, but simpler than manual machines and more forgiving than super-automatics.

Quality Perfectionistbest-in-class

You demand the absolute best espresso machine money can buy, with no compromises.

Not for you

Mid-tier milk frothing and ease-of-use ratings, plus semi-automatic operation, reveal clear quality gaps versus top-class machines; not best-in-class. Consider Barista Express Impress Espresso Machine.

Premium Connoisseurbrand & status

You want a prestige espresso machine that signals taste and investment to guests.

Not for you

De'Longhi is a mass-market brand; the Stilosa is compact and utilitarian, not a flagship or design statement that commands premium positioning. Consider Anima Prestige.
