In their words

We’re absolutely in love with this door! Our cats like their freedom and we don’t like to open the door every 2 minutes haha so this was perfect for us! One of our favorite features is the possibility to lock and unlock the door with our phones and the notifications every time they go in and out. It comes with a key and the door only opens when it detects the key.

Bianca · verified purchase · petsafe.com

This door is well-made and quality/design seems to be good. The issue is the pet tags that activate the door, which was the main reason for the purchase. The tags are essentially useless as the door rarely detects it or it needs to be almost touching the door for it to activate. Maybe another reader technology would make activation better. We just use it in non-smart mode now.

Find your situation?

Made for some — wrong for others.

Premium Connoisseurbrand & status

You value a recognized brand and flagship design that signals quality to guests.

Could fit

PetSafe is an established, respected pet-care brand with a premium-positioned smart door. The $330–450 price and connected features align with premium positioning, though it's not a luxury flagship.

Reliability-Seekerproven & safe

You need a proven, low-risk choice with broad consensus and a trusted brand.

Could fit

PetSafe is an established brand with 144 reviews and 3.8/5 consensus, but low-confidence battery and app reliability flags introduce risk for a seeker of proven, settled products.

Early Adopternewest first

You want the newest pet-tech innovation before anyone else adopts it.

Could fit

App-controlled pet doors are established, not cutting-edge; no evidence of a newer successor, but the category is mature and low-confidence app/battery aspects suggest this isn't leading-edge…

Enthusiastjoy & aesthetics

You love gadgets that delight with thoughtful design and a passionate user community.

Could fit

The product is functional and well-built, but reviews focus on practical aspects (durability, convenience) rather than design passion or sensory delight that enthusiasts seek.

Quality Perfectionistbest-in-class

You demand the absolute best: top-tier build, flawless reviews, and zero compromises.

Not for you

Build quality and pet convenience are strong, but app connectivity and battery reliability are marked as low-confidence aspects, and 3.8/5 from 144 reviews shows room for improvement versus true…

Simplifierjust works

You want a pet door that works straight out of the box with minimal fuss.

Not for you

App pairing and connectivity are marked low-confidence, and smart-door setup typically requires installation, configuration, and app management—not a plug-and-play experience.

Value-Maximizerprice first

You want a pet door that won't break the bank but does the job reliably.

Not for you

At $330–450, this is a premium-tier price point with a 3.8/5 rating. Cheaper alternatives like the Smart Pet Door (~$40–50) or Electronic SmartDoor (~$88–145) deliver core functionality at a… Consider Electronic SmartDoor.
