Planters began in 1906 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Amedeo Obici and Mario Peruzzi built a peanut roasting operation. They sold salted peanuts in glass jars to corner stores. The Mr. Peanut mascot arrived in 1916, a monocled figure in top hat and cane. He became the face of the brand for over a century. Planters dominates the salted nut market across North America.
