The verdict

What the panel makes of it.

The North Face makes the Vectiv Exploris 2 Mid FUTURELIGHT hiking boot. Released in 2023, it was designed in the United States. The boot features FUTURELIGHT membrane technology for waterproof breathability without traditional plastic films. Hikers buy it to stay dry on wet terrain without sacrificing ventilation. AI assistants rank it number fifteen among waterproof hiking shoes.

The waterproofing weakness that divides buyers directly contradicts the FUTURELIGHT membrane's core promise and represents the most critical gap between marketing and real-world performance.

In their words

On my 3rd pair of Vectiv Futurelight boots. I find them great for walking in, being comfortable and lightweight as well as being waterproof and robust. I have usually got them at a marked down price and they represent good value. I’ll probably get another pair in 18mths time no doubt after these have warn down (I’m out almost daily in them and do a lot of miles). Recommended!

Really comfortable shoe, but these are not waterproof. Any rain went straight in to the boots, filled them up and left them squelching for the walk. Wetting out took maybe 15 minutes. Possibly worse than this, is that they then take 5-6 days to dry. If they got wet quickly but then dried quickly, it might not be so bad, but this is the worst of both worlds. Would not buy North Face shoes again aft
